Social Curriculum
In 4B, we have a broad set of rules that we have arrived to collaboratively. With these in place, we help students develop strategies for navigating through social interactions using a variety of approaches. Most issues will be dealt with in school; we will notify parents if behavior is egregious.
If your child is having issues, please notify us immediately.
One approach we use is Responsive Classroom, which helps build a positive classroom community and establish positive discipline with logical consequences. Two important components of Responsive Classroom are:
- Morning Meeting: A time when we get together to build community and learn communication techniques by greeting each other, sharing experiences, playing games, and finding out about upcoming learning.
- Problem solving meetings and conferences: Methods to solve interpersonal disputes and problem behaviors through collaborative problem-solving.
Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean and hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.
