In fourth grade, students take the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System exam and are tested in three areas:
  • Reading comprehension: Students read passages and answer both multiple choice and open response questions about them.
  • Writing: Students write in response to a prompt. The prompt may require that they write a narrative, persuasive, or expository piece.
  • Math: Students answer multiple choice and open response questions in all math strands.

Preparations for MCAS is embedded throughout the curriculum. The writing and English Language Arts tests are scheduled in March, while the math test is administered in May. Please try not to schedule time away from school during or around testing times.
