Reading Strategies
Students are taught to think within, beyond, and about the text. They are assessed on these skills formally through the Benchmark Assessment System by Fountas and Pinnell, which helps teachers determine students' instructional levels.
Thinking Within the Text: solving words, monitoring comprehension, maintaining fluency, summarizing Thinking Beyond the Text: predicting, making connections, questioning, inferring Thinking About the Text: thinking critically, noticing aspects of the writer’s craft and text structure
